Hey guys, today’s lesson is going to be really boring but unfortunately it is necessary. Today we are going to cover numbers. We are going to do counting from 0 to 10, all right. The Chinese number system is very easy. So guys, let’s just go right into it, all right. So first 0, 零(líng), second tone rising tone, 零(líng), one more time, 零(líng). All right 1, 一(yī), first tone flat tone 一(yī), one more time, 一(yī). All right 2, now I am warning you there are two ways of saying 2 and we will go into that in a future lesson. However in this one, we are just going to go through the counting way of saying 2 which is 二(èr), one more time, it’s 二(èr), fourth tone, falling tone 二(èr). All right. Next 3, 三(sān), first tone, flat tone, 三(sān). Next 4, 四(sì) fourth tone, falling tone, 四(sì), one more time, 四(sì). All right, now we have 5, 五(wǔ), third tone, falling rising tone, 五(wǔ). Next 6, 六(liù), fourth tone falling tone, 六(liù), one last time, 六(liù). Now 7, 七(qī), first tone, flat tone, 七(qī). All right, now 8, 八(bā), first tone flat tone again, 八(bā). Now 9 九(jiǔ), third tone, falling rising tone, 九(jiǔ). And then lastly 10, 十(shí), second tone, rising tone 十(shí). Now the Chinese number system is really, really, really simple and once you know 0 through 10, even if you didn’t know 0, you’d be okay. You could say every number except for zero. So if you know all the numbers 0 through 10, you can say any number you want up to 100, okay. The way you make 20 is you just put 2 and 10 together, 二十(èr shí), one more time, 二十(èr shí). And so 30 is 三十(sān shí) and then 31 is 三十一(sān shí yī), 3 10 1, 三十一(sān shí yī). All right, now with 2, I have to warn you, there are two ways of saying 2. I said before that there were two ways of saying 2. The first one was the counting way of saying 2 which is 二(èr). So if you are counting in Chinese, you say 1, 2, 3, and if you are saying 20, you say 二十(èr shí) and then 21 二十一(èr shí yī), but if you are saying you have 2 of something all right, there are two people, you say 两(liǎng), that means 2, 两(liǎng), third tone, falling, rising tone, 两(liǎng). So if you are saying something like there are two people, you say 两(liǎng). If you are saying, I have two computers or I have two boxes, two of anything is 两(liǎng) whatever it is, okay. 二(èr) is only used in counting and when saying higher numbers like 20. Okay guys, I have to warn you. In Chinese, there are two ways of saying 2. We will cover one of them right now and then we will cover the other one later. The one we are going to cover now is 二(èr). This might be referred to as the numerical way of saying 2. This is used when you are counting numbers. So when you are saying 1, 2, 3, 4, or if you are saying higher numbers like 20. All right guys, let’s go over it. I don’t think I need to number the phrases. We will just say the numbers first. Ready? 0 零(líng), 1 一(yī), 2 二(èr). Now the other way of saying 2 两(liǎng), 3 三(sān), 4 四(sì), 5 五(wǔ), 6 六(liù), 7 七(qī), 8 八(bā), 9 九(jiǔ) and 10 十(shí). |
