Hi guys, last lesson, we went over how to get to the police, how to get help in an emergency. We are going to keep on that same topic and we are going to talk about ambulances and getting emergency medical help this time. The first phrase for today is, please call an ambulance. In Chinese, this is 请叫救护车(Qǐng jiào jiùhù chē.) The tones for this are, third tone, the falling rising tone, 请(qǐng). 叫(jiào) fourth tone, the falling tone, 叫(jiào). 救(jiù) fourth tone, the falling tone 救(jiù). 护(hù) fourth tone, the falling tone, 护(hù). 车(chē) first tone, the flat tone, 车(chē). 请叫救护车(Qǐng jiào jiùhù chē.) Broken down component by component, this is please 请(qǐng), third tone, to call 叫(jiào), fourth tone, 救护(jiù hù) to save, fourth tone and fourth tone again, 车(chē) car, first tone. So ambulance is saving car, 救护车(jiù hù chē), to save and then car, saving car, ambulance, 救护车(jiù hù chē). So please call ambulance, 请叫救护车(Qǐng jiào jiùhù chē.) Now the number for an ambulance in case you have to do this yourself is 120. Remember guys, 120 (yāo èr líng). If you get sick in China, if you have a medical problem in China, most likely it won’t be the kind where you need an ambulance. It will be more the stinky sort of painful maybe feverish kind. In that case, you are going to have to go to a hospital. There are very few private doctor’s offices in China. In fact, I’ve never even seen one. Most people, they go to the hospital when they are sick. So the phrase we are going to learn is, please take me to the hospital. You can say this to a cab driver, you could say this to your friend. Either way, it will get you to the hospital and once you are there, you will be able to see a doctor. So the phrase in Chinese is 请送我到医院(Qǐng sòng wǒ dào yīyuàn.) The tone for this are 请(qǐng) third tone, a falling rising tone, 请(qǐng). 送(sòng) fourth tone, the falling tone, 送(sòng). 我(wǒ) third tone, the falling rising tone, 我(wǒ). 到(dào) fourth tone, the falling tone, 到(dào). 医(yī) first tone, the flat tone, 医(yī), and then last, 院(yuàn) fourth tone, the falling tone, 院(yuàn). 请送我到医院(Qǐng sòng wǒ dào yīyuàn.) Literally broken down piece by piece, this is 请(qǐng) please, 请(qǐng). 送(sòng) to take or to deliver, 送(sòng). 我(wǒ) I or me, 我(wǒ). So these three together, they mean please take me, 请送我(qǐng sòng wǒ), please take me, just like English, 请送我(qǐng sòng wǒ). 到(dào) means to arrive or to. So 医院(yīyuàn) is the word for hospital, 医院(yīyuàn), hospital. To the hospital, 到医院(dào yīyuàn). 请送我(qǐng sòng wǒ), please take me to the hospital, 请送我到医院(Qǐng sòng wǒ dào yīyuàn.) Please take me to the hospital. Again the word order is exactly like English. |
