POST CONVERSATION BANTER |
Michael: We looked at how to ask a colleague for help in the previous lesson, and in this lesson we also heard a conversation where someone asked for help. |
Dehua: Although it’s good to ask for help if you need it, there are some dos and don’ts. |
Michael: Let’s talk a little about those. |
Dehua: When you ask for help, try to provide potential solutions. |
Michael: That’s a good idea. It shows that you’ve thought about the issue yourself, first. |
Dehua: It makes it seem like a group effort and not just you passing it off onto other people. |
Michael: I suppose that if you’re the type of person that always helps others, people will be more willing to help you, too. |
Dehua: That’s right. If you never help others and always need help yourself, they will think you’re unqualified. |
Michael: What is a good way to ask for help? |
Dehua: You can say 可以请你帮个忙吗?(Kěyǐ qǐng nǐ bāng gè máng ma?) |
Michael: "May I ask you a favor?" |
Dehua: You’ll probably get help without any resentment. |
