| In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to answer the question, "What are you doing?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to answer this question and tell someone something about what you’re writing. |
| Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases! |
| Listen to the dialogue. |
| 你在做什么？ (Nǐ zài zuò shénme?) |
| 我在写我的日记。 (Wǒ zài xiě wǒ de rìjì.) |
| Once more with the English translation. |
| 你在做什么？ (Nǐ zài zuò shénme?) |
| “What are you doing?” |
| 我在写我的日记。 (Wǒ zài xiě wǒ de rìjì.) |
| “I'm writing my journal.” |
| First of all you'll need to learn how to say “What are you doing?” |
| That's: |
| 你在做什么？ (Nǐ zài zuò shénme?) |
| Listen to it again: |
| 你在做什么？, 你在做什么？ (Nǐ zài zuò shénme?, Nǐ zài zuò shénme?) |
| This Chinese sentence literally translates as “You are doing what?" |
| But it means “What are you doing?”. |
| Now, how do you answer this question? |
| The pattern is: |
| 我在写[object]。 (Wǒ zài xiě [object].) |
| “I'm writing [object].” |
| For example: |
| “I'm writing my journal.” |
| 我在写我的日记。, 我在写我的日记。 (Wǒ zài xiě wǒ de rìjì., Wǒ zài xiě wǒ de rìjì.) |
