Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to comment on a joke. After watching this video, you’ll be able to compliment or criticize anyone on their sense of humor.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
为什么数学书很伤心？因为它有太多问题。 (Wèishénme shùxué shū hěn shāngxīn? Yīnwèi tā yǒu tài duō wèntí.)
哈哈，你太逗了！ (Hāhā, nǐ tài dòu le!)
Once more with the English translation.
为什么数学书很伤心？因为它有太多问题。 (Wèishénme shùxué shū hěn shāngxīn? Yīnwèi tā yǒu tài duō wèntí.)
“Why is the math book sad? Because it has so many problems.”
哈哈，你太逗了！ (Hāhā, nǐ tài dòu le!)
“Haha, you're so funny!”
First of all, let’s listen to the joke again “Why is the math book sad? Because it has so many problems.”
That's:
为什么数学书很伤心？因为它有太多问题。 (Wèishénme shùxué shū hěn shāngxīn? Yīnwèi tā yǒu tài duō wèntí.)
Listen to it again:
为什么数学书很伤心？因为它有太多问题。, 为什么数学书很伤心？因为它有太多问题。 (Wèishénme shùxué shū hěn shāngxīn? Yīnwèi tā yǒu tài duō wèntí., Wèishénme shùxué shū hěn shāngxīn? Yīnwèi tā yǒu tài duō wèntí.)
Now, how do you react to a joke? First, you’ll need to learn how to say “haha” . That’s 哈哈, 哈哈 (hāhā, hāhā)
Then, you’ll need to learn how to say “You're so [adjective].” The pattern is:
你太[adjective]了。 (Nǐ tài [adjective] le.)
“You're so [adjective].”
This Chinese sentence literally translates as “You too [adjective].” But it means “You're so [adjective].”.
For example:
“Haha, you're so funny!”
哈哈，你太逗了！, 哈哈，你太逗了！ (Hāhā, nǐ tài dòu le!, Hāhā, nǐ tài dòu le!)
