Very good! This poem was written by Tang Dynasty poet, 李申 (lǐ shēn). It described the farmer’s hardwork and telling people that the food on the table doesn’t come by easily. And this poem was often used at the table by Chinese parents to teach their children about not wasting food. |

Actually, this poem was created during the Three Kingdom Period by 曹 志 (cáo zhì). The poet’s true brother was the emperor at that time, but he was very, very jealous of his younger brother’s talent, so he forced his younger brother to create a poem within seven steps. If his younger brother cannot do that, he will kill him. That is why this poem is called 七 步 诗 (qī bù shī) “Seven Steps Verse.” |
